
DeWitt started performing on stage at the age of 13. At 13 she began performing on the stage. She received the degree of Bachelor of Arts from Ball State University. The director advised her to apply for UCLA's Department of Theater MFA program. She was awarded the Master of Fine Arts Fellowship along with the Clifton Webb Scholarship. Dewitt has claimed that she didn't meet actor Abe Vigoda while she was at UCLA. She was employed as secretary while at UCLA. DeWitt's role as Janet Wood in Three's Company's run from 1977 to 1984 is her most well-known. She was part of the show's pilot and was employed. Janet was also featured in an episode of the show The Ropers which she was a part in during 1979. After Three's Company ended in 1984, DeWitt appeared in an episode of Finder of Lost Loves in the year 1984, following which she resigned from acting for several years. Acting was her first return on stage in June 1991 when she played a part in a Noises Off production in Michigan's Cherry County Playhouse. [1] She was also a part-time actress in Spring Fling, a 1995 TV comedy. A character that was based on her, voiced by another actress, was featured in a 1997 episode on Pinky and the Brain. The actress was in the episode Cybill and also made a brief appearance in Living Single's final episode. The 2000s work of her includes TV shows such as Hope Island, The Nick at Nite Holiday Special and Call of the Wild.
